Final press is on for election 2010Submitted by Elisabeth Fri Oct 29 2010 10:00:00 GMT-0400 (EDT)
Who knew that in the final days before the election the media would suddenly think about something other than the horse race? It has been a whirlwind of phone calls and even an interview on CNN this week. Great for the League and the voters but a little tough for the blog.
A lot has been happening this week. I visited North Carolina Monday and Tuesday. There are any number of great colleges and universities in North Carolina and I was able to visit two of them, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Elon University near Greensboro. However discouraged we might get, talking to young people is a great reminder that we do have a bright future in this country. Whether it was talking to a student reporter for the Daily Tar Heel or to members of the pre-law fraternity at Elon, the conversation was invariably upbeat and informed.
Millenials rock was also the message at a League sponsored event last night at George Washington University. Look for the video of the event on the website shortly. Three experts discussed the future of this generation and it is reassuring to know that they are more likely to look for job satisfaction than high wages, more likely to care about their families and each other than other generations and looking for leaders who will compromise!
The board is meeting this weekend and I have a lot to report and great stories to tell about all the hard work that is going on out in Leagueland during this election season.
After some time to reflect, I have some great ideas to share based on the creative ways that Leagues are involving their members and communities in making democracy work!
