The Senate Must Pass the For the People Act

Friend,

The For the People Act (S1) is making incredible progress in the Senate. As of today, it has 49 cosponsors, and for the first time in its history the Senate Rules Committee will hold a markup on S1 tomorrow.

The Senate must swiftly pass this once-in-a-generation democracy reform package, which will:

  • Clean up our political system;
  • Get big money out of politics;
  • Hold elected officials accountable for corruption
  • Expand and protect voting rights, and;
  • Create a democracy that is representative of all Americans' voices and values.

We need your help once again as the Senate moves to markup S1 on May. 11th. Contact your senators* and ask them to vote YES on the For the People Act. The progress we have made in gaiting grassroots and legislative support is monumental.

Our CEO, Virginia Kase submitted written testimony to the committee expressing her support for the bill and its urgency. In her testimony she stated:

"The For the People Act is the democracy reform bill the American people want and deserve. Today, far too many people are turned off or turned away from the political process. This should not happen in the great country in the world. The provisions in this legislation will lead to greater trust in government and elected leaders by creating fairness, transparency, and accountability."

The League of Women Voters and our coalition partners have been working tirelessly to generate support for S1, the For the People Act. We have made incredible strides on this historic bill since it was first introduced in the last session of Congress. This is in no small part thanks to allies and volunteers like you, who have reached out to their Members of Congress to voice their support for the bill.

Voters turned out to vote in record numbers and to make their voices heard in 2020. Now, it's time for senators* to pass the For the People Act immediately.
