Now is the Time for the Senate to Act on Gun Violence

Earlier this year, the U.S. House passed legislation requiring universal background checks on every firearm sale and transfer, appropriating funds for gun violence research, and closing loopholes in laws that allow stalkers to obtain guns. And now it’s time for us to ensure the U.S. Senate does the same.

The U.S. Senate is coming back to work today, and we need your help to let them know their first order of business should be prioritizing the lives of the American people. S
end a welcome back note to your Senators asking them to prioritize legislation to end gun violence.
Over a 48 hour period from August 3rd to August 4th, our country witnessed more tragic examples of the consequences of inaction in the face of a public safety crisis: twenty-two people were killed in El Paso, Texas, ten were killed in Dayton, Ohio, and Chicago's Mount Sinai Hospital temporarily stopped accepting patients Sunday morning because they were at capacity following a series of shootings. Another shooting also followed in Odessa and Midland, TX on August 31, where seven people were killed.

This is not normal. We're calling on the U.S. Senate to finally take action to address this horrific national public safety threat.

Americans are demanding gun safety reform like never before. Legislation passed in the U.S. House earlier this year, H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Check Act, is supported by 97% of the American people. But the U.S. Senate has left lifesaving bills to falter in that chamber by refusing to even bring them up for a vote. We must hold our politicians accountable for choosing partisanship over the will of the American people.

Now is the time for us to act. Now is the time for us to make it clear to our members of Congress that saving lives from gun violence should be a priority. We cannot wait for the next mass shooting. We must act today.
