Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.

We have so much to be thankful for in 2018.

We just concluded a historic election season with record voter participation for a midterm year and more women elected to office than ever before. Our volunteers across the country registered more voters and reached out to more candidates than we could’ve anticipated. VOTE411.org saw record-high website traffic, supporting more than 5 million voters and even surpassing the engagement of the 2016 presidential election.

When I sit down to Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, I know I will give thanks to all of our hardworking supporters who dedicate so much time to forwarding our mission: Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.

As we give thanks for all we have accomplished and reflect on the progress we have made, we know there are still those who did not have their voice heard this election cycle. We saw voter suppression in states like Georgia and Florida, stricter voter ID laws passed in North Carolina and Arkansas, and unfounded accusations of voter fraud that cast doubt on the electoral process—threatening future ballot access.

We still have a long way to go to ensure that every citizen has the unrestricted right to make their voice heard and fully participate in our democracy.

As I reflect on my first election with the League, I know that our work has never been more important.

This week, I am giving thanks for this network of strong, powerful women and men working hard to defend democracy for all.

With deepest thanks,

Virginia Kase
