League celebrates 90th with Rocky Mountains as backdropSubmitted by Elisabeth Fri Sep 24 2010 10:27:00 GMT-0400 (EDT)
I arrived in mile-high city last night. One of my favorite things about Denver is waking up to views of the rocky mountains! Another great view is the gold dom of the Colorado Capitol. Coming from a state with such a dome, I appreciate the effort it takes to gild something that large and that high.
We visited the Capitol after an informative meeting with Colorado's Secretary of State. The tone here is sure different than Texas, but some of the proposed amendments to Colorado's constitution would be right at home in the Lone Star State. Since I was still wearing my LWVUS nametag, we got an even more cordial welcome from the volunteer tour guides at the Capitol than usual (which is saying something). Good information on state history is a great preparation for talking about the League's 90th anniversary at the Governor's Mansion tonight. Especially since some of that history we got at the home of the Unsinkable Molly Brown!
Oh, and for my League sisters in Phoenix, the traveling cactus is doing great! I guess I really am in the west, when bringing a cactus through airport security doesn't even raise an eyebrow.
