Redistricting reform and voter registration in DallasSubmitted by Elisabeth Wed Sep 22 2010 10:18:00 GMT-0400 (EDT)
What a great day in Dallas! We started at KERA, public radio in Dallas talking about voter turnout and redistricting. Then it was on to Arlington, TX to a public hearing before a Texas House commission on redistricting. My testimony on behalf of the League provoked many statements and challenges, including from a representative who wanted the League to criticize the Voting Rights Act! My response that it was not the Voting Rights Act, but the redistricting process that needed reforming was well received in the room, if not on the committee. An hour discussing plans and outreach for the upcoming election with Dallas County Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet and a delightful reception with area League members at the Central Library finished out the official day.
