The White House Must Act to Protect Voting Rights

Friend,

American democracy is under attack. Across the nation hundreds of anti-voter bills have been moving through state legislatures that place barriers on our most basic American right, the freedom to vote. Millions of Americans stand to lose access to the ballot, mostly people of color, women, persons with disabilities, and young people.

We must fight against these deliberate barriers to voting with everything in our arsenal. Congress is currently considering multiple bills related to federal voting rights that will help to turn the tide on these anti-voter efforts. It is time for the Biden-Harris Administration to lead this fight to protect the freedom to vote. The White House holds substantial power and influence but has yet to leverage the full weight of the office to champion voting rights. Now is NOT the time to sit back and hope Congress does what is right.

Tell President Biden that he must go all-in to implement federal voting rights laws nationwide!

Democracy belongs to the people. The Biden-Harris Administration came into office only after the historic 2020 election achieved record-shattering voter participation and necessary expansions to voter access during a deadly pandemic. If the Biden Administration wants to make good on the promise of democracy, they must use their power and influence to do what it takes to bring voting protections to the most vulnerable voters in this country.

Federal voting rights reforms are essential to the health and security of our democracy. The American people want and deserve comprehensive federal voting rights reforms. Reforms that will:

  • Protect and enforce voting rights;
  • Address the historical barriers to voting;
  • Provide an oversight over voting rights violations;
  • Hold states and bad actors accountable; and
  • Create a democracy that is representative of all Americans.

Join the League of Women Voters in calling on the Biden-Harris Administration to become true champions of voting rights. And we ask you, our valued members and supporters, to make your voice heard to protect your vote. Implore the White House to use their power and influence to implement federal voting rights reforms.

Our democracy cannot wait. The Biden Administration must take up the fight alongside voters, voting rights advocates, and the millions of Americans who support national standards for voting access!

Yours in the fight,

Virginia Kase
