Yesterday, millions of voters across the country took control in their communities by casting their votes in thousands of state and local elections.
Thank you to all of you who voted or helped your friends and family find the information they needed to participate - and for Making Democracy Work®.
Even as final votes are counted and new leaders get ready to take the oath of office, League volunteers are hard at work preparing for next year’s midterm elections. We couldn’t have accomplished so much this year without you and now we’re getting a jump-start on all that needs to be accomplished in 2014 by joining the #GivingTuesday movement, an annual campaign created to promote a national day of giving to celebrate organizations like the League that make our communities a better place.
Pledge to support the League’s work on #GivingTuesday.
Volunteer leaders of our nearly 800 state and local Leagues in communities all across the country are already busy reflecting upon the work they accomplished this election season assessing what worked and what they can improve before next year’s midterm elections. This year over 300,000 voters used VOTE411.org, our online election resource, to get the information they needed to cast their ballot. In 2014, we’re committed to stepping up our fight for voters’ rights, registering more new voters, holding more candidate forums and publishing more voters’ guides, so that every eligible American has the opportunity to participate in our remarkable political process.
Taking place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – and subsequently after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday – #GivingTuesday is an unofficial holiday that began in 2012 to help change the conversation about holiday spending. Consider making a holiday gift donation in honor of someone in your life who helps make democracy work. Pledge to support the League on #GivingTuesday and we’ll send you a reminder email and online donation form on #GivingTuesday – December 3.
League volunteers across the country will continue to do everything in their power to make democracy work, but the fight requires the help of all community members. #GivingTuesday is propelled by those who believe that passion and commitment can make a difference. On December 3, we ask that you think of the League as you reflect on the need to strengthen our country and our great democracy. Pledge to support the League’s work to engage voters and to increase understanding of major public policy issues, including protecting voters’ rights, reforming money in politics, and defending the environment on #GivingTuesday.
Thanks again for everything you do Making Democracy Work®.
