Increased presence of armed attendees at our state Capitol and at rallies and demonstrations in our local communities endangers public safety. A small disagreement can rapidly escalate into a violent confrontation when emotions are high and weapons — not just firearms — are openly carried. Nothing intimidates participation like an openly carried firearm or weapon.
Opponents of this and other common sense gun restrictions are well organized and vocal and often drown out voices of other points of view.
Also, if a shot is fired intentionally or accidentally, law enforcement cannot easily identify a shooter if there is a group similarly armed. Law enforcement is able to intervene and prevent potentially violent situations as this bill clearly defines prohibitions on carrying weapons.
No one needs a weapon to express their views! Ask your representatives to vote yes on ESSB 5038 to promote unintimidated speech and public safety.
